Standing Up for the Right to Education in Peru

MiraVe dedicates its work to improving the lives of children in Peru, and as such we took a close look at a recent report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) outlining the threats to human rights in education in the country. According to HRW, the Peruvian government has been cutting education budgets, closing schools, and restricting the rights of teachers and students, putting the future of an entire generation at risk.

Education is a fundamental human right, and it is essential for the development and well-being of individuals and communities. It provides children with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life and make positive contributions to their communities. It also helps to break the cycle of poverty, reduce inequality, and promote economic growth.

However, the recent actions by the Peruvian government are putting this right in jeopardy. By cutting education budgets, closing schools, and restricting the rights of teachers and students, the government is effectively denying children the opportunity to learn and reach their full potential. This is not only a violation of their basic rights, but it also has long-term consequences for the health and stability of these communities.

As individuals and as a society, we have a moral obligation to stand up for the right to education. We cannot sit idly by and watch as the future of an entire generation is put at risk. We must take action to protect and promote this fundamental right, and to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

That's why we are proud to work with organizations like Caritas Felices Children's Shelter, a staple of the Lurin community in Lima, Peru. This organization run by Director Monica Quintanilla dedicates its efforts towards rescuing girls ages 10 to 18 and and giving them access to their fundamental rights of clothing, shelter, food, education, healthcare, paving the way for a brighter future. Working with mission driven organizations like this one is one of our favorite methods of staying involved in our Peruvian communities no matter where we are.

So, what can you do? You can start by learning more about the issue, and sharing this information with your friends and family. You can also make a donation to organizations like MiraVe, or consider volunteering your time and skills to help make a difference.

The time for action is now. Let's come together to help make a positive difference in the lives of children and families in Peru. With your support, we can help create a brighter future for these communities and ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
